Catholic Relief Services Rep speaks about Crisis in Iraq

As the armed conflict in Iraq continues, over 2 million people have been uprooted from their homes and towns fleeing ISIS.

The Diocese of St. Petersburg’s Office of Life Ministry hosted a workshop on the Crisis in Iraq at Corpus Christi Parish on the evening of June 2, 2015. Rev. Peter Ruggere welcomed attendees and offered an overview of the region and the various cultures. Mr. Cullen Larson from Catholic Relief Services (CRS) described the current situation in Iraq and detailed the relief and peacebuilding efforts of CRS.

The event was attended by parishioners of Corpus Christi, Diocese of St. Petersburg Office of Life Ministry representatives, several refugee families, and several Catholic Charities representatives, including one of whom is a recent refugee, as well as Program Director Maggie Rogers, who through our various Refugee programs are assisting these refugee families as they immigrate and assimilate into our community.
