The Diocese of St. Petersburg, Hispanic Ministry is offering the Diocese first ever encounter for Hispanics in our communities. The Encuentro, being held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Nativity Catholic Church in Brandon, FL, is a mid-point in a process begun several years ago as the Church seeks to understand and meet the needs of its ever-growing Hispanic community.
Surveys provided the ability to identify the accomplishments, challenges and possible ideas for future growth and development amongst Hispanics in 3 priority areas:
- Evangelization – including formation and the family
- Social Justice
- Youth
The Encuentro will gather representatives from each parish with Hispanic Ministry, Hispanic Young Adults, Hispanic Youth present, along with Members from each Diocesan-wide Organization and Movement (MDS, Cursillo, Charismatic Movement, etc.) as well as Deacons and Clergy working with the Hispanic Community.
The free event will begin with registration at 9:00 am and a 10:00 am Mass celebrated by the Most Reverend Bishop Robert N. Lynch followed by speakers and table discussions. Lunch will be provided followed by a special track for youth (in English and Spanish). The day will end with a closing prayer and sending off at 3:30 pm.
Speakers consist of: Bishop Lynch, the first and keynote address, followed by a Q&A. Then Spanish keynote speakers will address the audience, including Rev. Mario Vizcaino, SCH. P., and Rev. Rafael Capo, SCH. P.
This very important session will be followed by the Dioceses participation in the V National Ecuentro which was convocated by the USCCB and which will start with activities in 2016.
