In response to today’s Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization:
Since our founding in 1945, Catholic Charities Diocese of St. Petersburg remains committed to walking in solidarity with all those who come to our doors, whether they are girls or women in crisis pregnancies or families facing challenging social, economic or housing circumstances. Our compassion for those struggling with difficulties often beyond their control is coupled with a call for strong social supports – including food, health and housing policies – that uplift and promote the welfare of all. This call is consistent with our Catholic faith and values, with our mission to alleviate suffering and reduce poverty, and with the teachings of the Gospels.
Catholic Charities provides social services to help women and girls during pregnancy and after the birth of a child through our Foundations of Life Pregnancy Centers. These social services include financial and material support; care and counseling during prenatal, postnatal, and postpartum stages; adoption; and housing. “We are deeply heartened to see that the U.S. Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey in its landmark opinion, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
