Who Says Smoking Is Bad?

January 12, 2022 by Lou Ricardo in Shelter

Where there is smoke, there is BBQ! Mission BBQ served a mouthwatering barbecue feast to the formerly homeless men and women, including many veterans, at Tampa Hope on Monday, January 10, 2022.

Mission BBQ rolled into Tampa Hope bringing their vintage WWII vehicle and most importantly their best menu and staff ready to give back on their National Day of Service: Feeding Our Local Homeless Veterans! The team served an array of BBQ meats, baked beans, mac ‘n cheese, green beans, corn bread and rolls. This was topped off with a variety of BBQ sauces. Mission BBQ did not stop there. They not only quenched the hungry of the residents, but they quenched their thirst with refreshing sweet tea and lemonade! According to Mission BBQ, “We do what we do for the love of our soldiers, firefighters, police officers, first responders—all our loved ones in service.”

With an appetite worked up by excitement, the food tent had a long line of men and women eagerly awaiting their meal. As Mission BBQ staff said, “Let’s Eat!” the residents held out their plates one by one. The tent was filled with yes ma’ams, thank yous and seconds! According to Tampa Hope Program Manger Cynthia Jones-Northington, “Food is the doorway to the soul. It lifts the guests’ spirits and lets them know that people genuinely care about their well-being.”
